Personal Lines Underwriter - Property & Casualty
About This Role
Join our on-site team as a Personal Lines Property & Casualty Underwriter. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, hands-on environment where analytical skills and business acumen drive successful underwriting decisions.
Employment Type: Full-time, on-site position
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (30-minute lunch break)
Location: 1256 State Route 5, Chittenango, New York
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and underwrite personal lines property and casualty risks
- Make complex underwriting decisions using sound judgment and company guidelines
- Handle policy inquiries, rating, coverage decisions, and documentation
- Support commercial lines underwriting as needed
- Collaborate with agents, brokers, and internal teams
- Participate in marketing and business development initiatives
Qualifications
Experience & Education:
- A healthy combination of education and real-world experience – college degree is preferred but not required
- Two years of property & casualty underwriting experience strongly preferred
- We might be willing to train an inexperienced but exceptionally motivated candidate with strong core competencies (listed below)
- Knowledge of personal lines products (Homeowners, Dwelling Fire, etc.)
- Professional designations (CPCU, CISR, AINS, AU, ARM) or willingness to pursue
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong aptitude for learning new software applications
- Comfortable with technology troubleshooting and system navigation

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to team objectives
- Adaptability and enthusiasm for continuous learning
Other Requirements:
- Valid New York State driver's license
- Must be able to work on-site Monday through Friday (no remote work options)
- Ability to perform general office duties as needed
